उत्तर प्रदेश: तेज़ हवा में उड़ गया हमीरपुर का विकास, तूफान से गिरा निर्माणाधीन पुल, 6 मजदूरों की मौत, कई मलबे में दबे

A major tragedy has struck the Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh. Due to a severe storm, a section of a bridge currently under construction collapsed, resulting in the deaths of six laborers who were buried beneath the debris. Several other individuals are feared to be trapped. Police forces and local residents are currently conducting rescue operations at the accident site.

Arvind Kumar Verma, the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) for Hamirpur, stated, “Around 2:00 AM on the intervening night of May 28 and 29, we received information that the slab of a bridge—being built to connect Morakandar in the Lalpur police station area with Mawaijar in Kurara—had collapsed, trapping several people underneath.

Upon receiving this information, the local police and our entire team immediately rushed to the scene. Currently, three individuals remain trapped atop a pillar. The SDRF and our team are making continuous efforts to rescue them. Reports indicate that six people are buried within the debris; five of them have already been identified. They will be extricated once the collapsed slab is removed.”

According to reports, a large section of the bridge—which was being constructed over the Betwa River—gave way. At the time of the accident, several laborers were sleeping beneath the bridge and subsequently became buried under the fallen debris. The deceased are reported to include laborers hailing from the Banda and Hamirpur districts. It is further reported that the construction of this bridge was being undertaken through the efforts of Rajya Sabha MP Baburam Nishad.

Officials have arrived at the site to inspect the ongoing relief and rescue operations. The immediate priority remains the safe extrication of those trapped within the debris. A technical team is also being summoned to investigate the causes of the accident, with the aim of determining whether the collapse was due to deficiencies in the bridge’s structural quality or if there were other underlying factors involved. The operation to retrieve those buried under the debris is proceeding on a war footing. A large crowd has gathered at the accident site, and senior officials from the police and administrative departments remain stationed at the scene to oversee the situation. The administration is currently working to identify the deceased and the injured.
