A case of alleged gang-rape of two sisters has come to light in Patna’s Naubatpur; the victims had been invited to a tilak ceremony under the pretext of a dance performance. A case has been registered against 10 individuals based on the victims’ statements. The police have detained one accused, and a search for the others is underway.

A shocking case of alleged gang-rape involving two sisters has come to light from the Naubatpur police station area in Patna. The victims allege that they had been invited to perform a dance at a tilak ceremony; however, instead of being taken to the event venue, they were held captive by a group of youths and subjected to inhumane treatment throughout the night. The police have registered an FIR against 10 individuals and initiated an investigation. According to the police, both young women are originally from the Latehar district of Jharkhand. They currently reside in a rented house in Patna’s Mithapur area and earn a living by performing dance routines at various functions.

In their complaint, the victims stated that they had been invited to perform at a tilak ceremony held in a village within the Naubatpur police station area on June 18. The booking for the event had been made by Munna Kumar, a resident of Bhelura Rampur.

Allegation of being taken to a secluded spot instead of the event venue

The victims allege that instead of taking them to the event venue, Munna Kumar, his cousin Suraj Kumar, Bhanu Kumar, and other youths forcibly took them into custody. Subsequently, the two sisters were taken to separate locations and gang-raped. The women stated that they were assaulted when they resisted and were coerced into silence through death threats. They alleged that they were kept in a state of fear and duress throughout the night.

Sisters saved after raising an alarm

According to the victims, the accused set out to drop them back in a vehicle on Friday morning. While passing through the Phulwarisharif area, the sisters seized an opportunity and began shouting for help. Hearing their cries, locals gathered at the scene and alerted the Dial-112 police service. Upon receiving the information, a police team arrived, took the two women into protective custody, and brought them to the Phulwarisharif police station. The Naubatpur police were subsequently informed of the matter, and the victims were then taken to the Naubatpur police station. FIR against 10 accused; raids underway for arrests

Naubatpur Station House Officer (SHO) Manjit Kumar Thakur stated that an FIR has been registered against a total of 10 individuals—including Munna Kumar, Suraj Kumar, and Bhanu Kumar—based on the complaints filed by the victims. One accused has been taken into custody and is being interrogated, while continuous raids are being conducted at suspected hideouts to apprehend the other accused.

The police state that the matter is being investigated from all angles and that strict legal action will be taken against the guilty.
