Afghanistan stated on Wednesday that Pakistan had launched fresh airstrikes within the country, resulting in the deaths of at least 13 people and injuries to 14 others.
Taliban chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, providing details about the airstrikes, said that the attacks targeted Afghanistan’s Khost, Kunar, and Paktika provinces. He reported that 11 children, a woman, and an elderly person were killed in these attacks.
A deadly conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan has been ongoing for several months since late February, claiming hundreds of lives. The conflict escalated further when Afghanistan launched a retaliatory cross-border attack into Pakistan; this was in response to airstrikes previously conducted by Pakistan inside Afghanistan.
Pakistan alleges that Afghanistan harbors extremists who carry out deadly attacks within Pakistan—specifically the Pakistani Taliban, known as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). However, Kabul has consistently denied these allegations.
The TTP is a separate organization from the Afghan Taliban, though it is considered an ally. The Afghan Taliban has been ruling Afghanistan since seizing power during the chaotic withdrawal of US-led forces in 2021.
