Security agencies went on high alert following reports of a shooting incident near the White House in Washington D.C., the U.S. capital. The incident occurred while U.S. President Donald Trump was inside the White House. According to a report by the news agency Reuters, the suspected gunman was wounded in a retaliatory response by the United States Secret Service; he was subsequently transported to a hospital, where he later died.
Officials stated that the situation is now fully under control and there have been no reports of any security personnel being injured. Following the incident, security measures across the entire area were further tightened. Kash Patel, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), confirmed the incident via a social media post. He stated that an FBI team is on the scene and is conducting an investigation in coordination with the Secret Service.
Sniper Teams Deployed to the White House Roof
Following the shooting, United States Secret Service sniper teams were seen deployed on the roof of the White House. According to security agencies, this constitutes a standard security protocol in the event of any potential threat, involving the surveillance of the entire complex from elevated vantage points.
According to reports, the shooting took place near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest. This area is situated immediately outside the White House complex. In the aftermath of the incident, armed Secret Service agents were observed patrolling the North Lawn area of the White House.
Press Briefing Room Also Secured
For security reasons, the White House Press Briefing Room was also secured. The Secret Service cleared the entire North Lawn area, while journalists present at the White House were immediately instructed to take shelter inside the Press Briefing Room. According to a reporter present at the scene, the sound of approximately 20 gunshots was heard coming from outside the complex.
