Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has died in a plane crash. He was approximately 66 years old. He was traveling from Mumbai to his hometown of Baramati when the plane crashed during landing. The aircraft was being piloted by a young female pilot, Shambhavi Pathak. Captain Sumit and another crew member were also on board.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar died in a plane crash on Wednesday morning. He was traveling from Mumbai to Baramati. District council elections are being held in Baramati, and he was scheduled to attend an election rally there. According to initial reports, the accident was caused by fog. The pilot lost control, and the plane crashed in a field near the airport. The aircraft was being piloted by a female pilot, Shambhavi Pathak. Shambhavi had studied in Mumbai and earned a BSc degree in Aeronautics and Aviation Science from Mumbai University. To become a pilot, Shambhavi Pathak received commercial pilot training from the New Zealand International Commercial Pilot Academy. Shambhavi learned professional flying between 2018 and 2019. She also obtained her commercial pilot license from the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority there.
According to reports, the aircraft was being piloted by experienced Captain Sumit and First Officer Shambhavi Pathak. Both pilots died on the spot in this horrific accident. Pinky Mali was working as a flight attendant. The aircraft involved in the accident was a Learjet 45 belonging to VSR Ventures company and its registration number was VT-SSK.
First Officer Shambhavi Pathak
First Officer Shambhavi Pathak had been working with VSR Ventures since 2022. She received her aviation education from Mumbai University. Following this, she received specialized training from the International Commercial Pilot Academy in New Zealand between 2018 and 2019. She was known as a highly talented and determined pilot.
Shambhavi Pathak, who was piloting this aircraft weighing approximately 9,752 kg, had been associated with the company since 2022. After completing her aviation education from Mumbai University, she received specialized training from the International Commercial Pilot Academy in New Zealand between 2018 and 2019.
The aircraft was completely destroyed and caught fire after the crash. All five people on board the aircraft, including Ajit Pawar, Videep Jadhav, Captain Sumit, Shambhavi Pathak, and Pinky Mali, died in the accident. The DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) has confirmed the deaths of all five individuals. The wreckage of the aircraft was completely destroyed by fire. The DGCA has ordered a high-level inquiry into the accident.
VSR Ventures Aircraft
The aircraft belonged to VSR Ventures, a private aviation company based in Delhi. It was founded in 2011. Captain Vijay Singh and Captain Rohit Singh are the owners of the company. Interestingly, an aircraft belonging to the same company crashed at Mumbai airport on September 14, 2023.
This tragic accident occurred between 8:45 and 9:15 AM. Ajit Pawar was traveling from Mumbai to Baramati to campaign for the district council elections and address public meetings. While attempting to land on the runway at Baramati airport, the aircraft experienced a sudden technical malfunction, causing it to crash into a nearby field instead of landing on the runway.
