A petition has been filed in the Bombay High Court, alleging that the police shooting of Rohit Arya, who had recently taken 17 children and two adults hostage at a recording studio, was a fake encounter and demanding a CBI investigation. Petitioner Shobha Buddhiwant claims that the police killed Arya in self-defense and resistance at the behest of a political leader. The petition, filed through advocate Nitin Satpute, states that Arya was suffering from mental stress due to the state government’s failure to pay his pending dues.
The petition urges the High Court to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Questioning the police’s claim that Arya fired his air gun at the police team first, the petitioner stated that the police could have shot Arya below the waist.
Arya had taken 17 children and two adults hostage at a recording studio in Mumbai on October 30. He was shot during the rescue operation. Arya was shot during the police action. He was subsequently taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The case is being investigated by a magistrate and the Mumbai Police Crime Branch.
