He said that in addition, a fine of ₹500 will be imposed for allowing a pet dog to defecate in a public place and failing to clean it up. A fine of ₹750 will be imposed for polluting a river, dumping garbage or waste in a drain or sewer.

The Municipal Corporation of Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency, has implemented the Swachhata Niyam Udyog 2021, under which fines ranging from ₹250 to ₹5,000 will be imposed for activities such as littering, spitting paan (paan) and gutkha (gutka) on roads or public places, dumping garbage, or illegal construction within municipal limits. An official provided this information on Thursday.
Municipal Public Relations Officer Sandeep Srivastava said, “Now, a fine of ₹250 will be imposed for spitting on the road or leaving food for animals. Littering in open spaces such as parks, grounds, roads, footpaths, or dividers, and for leaving garbage on one’s premises for more than 24 hours, will attract a fine of ₹500.”
He added that allowing a pet dog to defecate in a public place and failing to clean it up will also attract a fine of ₹500. Polluting rivers, dumping garbage, or waste in drains or sewers will attract a fine of ₹750.
According to Srivastava, “A fine of ₹2,000 will be imposed for transporting garbage or debris in an uncovered truck or vehicle, or for damaging a municipal vehicle or handcart. A fine of ₹1,000 will be imposed for throwing garbage or spitting from a moving or stationary vehicle. Additionally, a fine of ₹5,000 will be imposed for allowing water to accumulate on the premises or for creating filth that is harmful to health.”
