The Bombay High Court on Thursday quashed the Look Out Circular (LOC) issued by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Rhea Chakraborty, her brother and father in connection with the investigation into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
This LOC was issued after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput in 2020, against which petitions were filed by Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik and their father Indrajit. These petitions have been approved by the division bench of Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Manjusha Deshpande.
Advocate Shriram Shirsat, appearing for CBI, requested the bench to stay the implementation of its order for a period of four weeks so that the agency can file an appeal in the Supreme Court. But the High Court bench refused to stay its order.
Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his apartment in Bandra on June 14, 2020. Mumbai Police had registered an accidental death report and started investigating the case.
Rajput’s father had filed a complaint with Bihar Police in July 2020, alleging that the actor’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and her family members had instigated his son to commit suicide.
Later the case was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), since then CBI is investigating the case.
In September last year, the High Court had put a temporary stay on the LOC issued against Showik, so that he could travel abroad.
In the year 2020, both Rhea and her brother Showik were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in a drug case related to Rajput. Later he was granted bail.
