A controversy erupted during a Diwali celebration in the United States. As the festival was being observed in Seattle, far-right activist Jake Lang, accompanied by his supporters, arrived at the venue and began a protest.
The protesters carried signs demanding the expulsion of Hindus from the country. Some individuals present at the event confronted Lang and questioned him. Following the incident, Lang made offensive remarks against the Hindu community on social media.
Lang and his supporters had arrived at the Diwali event in Seattle on Saturday. Their signs bore the message, “Get all the ‘dot-heads’ out of the country.” It should be noted that some racists in the United States use the derogatory term “dot-heads” to target Hindus. Sharing images of the incident on the social media platform X, Lang claimed that he and his supporters were attacked by those attending the Diwali celebration. Using slurs against Hindus, he alleged that the Indian-American community is responsible for strengthening the Democratic Party in Texas.
Who is Jake Lang?
Jake Lang is a far-right American activist who runs an organization called “White Replacement.” He was involved in the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol and served four years in prison in connection with the event. However, U.S. President Donald Trump granted him a pardon on the first day of his second term in 2025.
Trump Celebrates Diwali at the White House
While a protest took place during a Diwali celebration in Seattle, U.S. President Donald Trump celebrated the festival with members of the Indian community at the White House, where he lit a diya (lamp). Attendees included Indian tech entrepreneur Vishal Gondal and chef Vikas Mehta, among others. On this occasion, Trump was also presented with a copy of the Hanuman Chalisa. Meanwhile, Washington State Governor Bob Ferguson also celebrated Diwali with the Indian community. He participated in an event held at the Legislative Building alongside the Consul General of India and State Senator Manka Dhingra. On Sunday, Ferguson proclaimed Diwali as the “Festival of Lights” in Washington State.
He noted that Washington is home to a large Indian-American community, which has made significant contributions to the state’s development. A Diwali event was also held at the Washington State Capitol in Olympia, attended by several leaders.
Alleged Plot to Target a Hindu Temple
This incident involving the targeting of the Hindu community in the U.S. comes at a time when an alleged plot to attack a Hindu temple near Chicago has also come to light. A 19-year-old, Alexandros Paporakis, was arrested following an investigation into threats of a mass shooting at the temple; he is accused of planning an attack. According to reports, he was influenced by Nazi ideology.
Allegations Regarding Midterm Elections
Jake Lang has also raised questions about the results of the U.S. midterm elections. Alleging electoral fraud, he claimed that the Republican Party’s influence has weakened in states like Texas and Kansas. He has also called for a protest outside the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., on January 3, 2027. He alleged that the election results are being certified improperly; however, no evidence has been provided to support these claims.
