People continue to arrive at Jantar Mantar in Delhi for the protest organized by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). Security arrangements in the capital have been tightened in view of the protest. There are reports of several people being detained, while the police have restricted movement on various routes by setting up barricades. Restrictions on some metro services have also been reported.
Meanwhile, a video has emerged from Kabulpur village in Haryana’s Rohtak district, bordering Delhi. The video shows a heated argument between villagers and the police. It is alleged that the police had arrived at the village to detain the residents to prevent them from participating in the protest in Delhi. However, the police’s move backfired; the villagers ended up holding the police personnel hostage.
Police arrived to detain villagers; villagers held them hostage instead
In the video, a man is seen questioning the police’s actions. He states that the march in Delhi is directed against the Election Commission, not the government. He alleges that the Rohtak police arrived early in the morning to detain him and other villagers to stop them from joining this protest.
In the video, the man asks the police personnel on what grounds they are taking action and under which legal provisions they are proceeding. An argument ensues between the police and the villagers. The villagers declared that they would hold the officers hostage until they received an explanation for their visit.
The villagers noted that while the police had spoken of Section 166, the villagers themselves have now invoked Section 333 against the officers and held them captive.
Villager questions police action
In the video, the man demands that the police clarify the basis for their actions. He states that the police personnel will be held hostage until senior police officers arrive at the scene and explain why the police had come to detain the villagers.
In the video, the man also targeted the BJP government, asserting that they would face this action. He alleged that pressure is being exerted on the villagers to prevent them from participating in the protest.
Security arrangements in Delhi are tight regarding the CJP protest. Meanwhile, this video from Kabulpur village in Rohtak has raised questions about the alleged measures being taken to stop the protesters.
