Eight people died in a tragic road accident late Saturday night in Kerala’s Thrissur district. All the victims were reportedly students from Tamil Nadu. Preliminary reports indicate that the students were studying at an engineering college in Dindigul. The accident occurred around midnight near Panambikunnu Centre on NH-66 while the students’ car was traveling from Guruvayur towards Kodungallur.
It is reported that roadwork was underway, and a lorry was parked in the same direction of travel. The speeding car suddenly rammed into the lorry. The impact was so severe that the front of the car was completely mangled, and parts of the vehicle were scattered across the road. Chaos and cries for help erupted at the scene, and locals immediately alerted the police and rescue teams.
Upon receiving the information, police, fire department personnel, and rescue teams rushed to the site. Extricating the occupants proved extremely difficult as the car was badly crushed; rescuers had to cut through the wreckage to retrieve those trapped inside. Firefighters reportedly faced significant challenges in extracting two of the victims.

The Kerala Police stated that further details regarding the incident are being gathered. Efforts are being made to contact the families of the deceased so that the bodies can be handed over to the next of kin after completing the necessary formalities. An investigation into the cause of the accident is also being conducted to determine whether adequate safety signs or barricades were in place around the parked lorry.
