Mobile phone found in former MP Prajwal Revanna’s Bengaluru prison cell had Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Netflix, Prime Video

During a CCB raid at Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Jail, mobile phones were found in the possession of two inmates, including Prajwal Revanna. Action has also been taken against a jail official in connection with the matter.

Mobile phones were found in the possession of two inmates, including former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, during a raid by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) at Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Jail. An Android phone was seized from Prajwal Revanna during the operation conducted on Tuesday afternoon. The second inmate has been identified as Pratap Rai. A case has been registered against both individuals under Section 42 of the Prisons Act. Alongside the investigation into the incident, disciplinary action has also been initiated against jail officials.

Raid on High-Profile Inmates’ Barracks

DGP (Prisons) Alok Kumar stated that the CCB conducted raids on the barracks of all high-profile inmates in the jail on Tuesday afternoon. It was during this operation that the Android phone was found with Prajwal Revanna. Based on a report by the DIG (South), the concerned Assistant Jail Superintendent has been suspended, and a show-cause notice has been issued to the Superintendent of Bengaluru Central Jail.

The police are currently examining CCTV footage and gathering further information regarding the matter. Investigating officers are scrutinizing the entire incident before issuing formal notices and proceeding with further action. Cases have been registered against both inmates under Section 42 of the Prisons Act at Parappana Agrahara Jail. This section prescribes penalties for offenses such as bringing contraband into or out of the jail, unauthorized contact with inmates, or aiding in the violation of prison rules.

Prajwal Revanna Imprisoned in Obscene Video Case

Former MP Prajwal Revanna is currently incarcerated in connection with an obscene video case. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the matter filed a comprehensive 13,712-page charge sheet in March 2026, naming a total of 39 accused individuals. The charge sheet was filed before the Senior Civil Court in Hassan. According to the SIT, a total of 52 names emerged during the investigation, but charges were framed against only 39 individuals based on sufficient evidence. The investigation was initiated following a complaint by Advocate Purnachandra, who had served as a JD(S) agent during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Mention of 70 pen drives in the charge sheet

The SIT charge sheet reveals that the accused purchased approximately 70 pen drives in Hassan, which were used to circulate the alleged obscene videos. Statements from a total of 277 witnesses were recorded during the investigation.

Meanwhile, a detailed investigation is underway regarding the recovery of a mobile phone inside the jail. Following a raid by the CCB, CCTV footage and other information are being examined. Additionally, lapses on the part of the jail administration are being investigated.
