Violence erupted in Patna following a road accident, and an unruly mob set several vehicles on fire. A heavy police force managed to bring the situation under control with difficulty. Efforts are currently underway to identify the arsonists.

On Thursday afternoon, a speeding bus ran over a young man near the Zero Mile area in Patna, the capital of Bihar, killing him instantly. Following the accident, local residents were overcome with rage; the angry crowd placed the victim’s body on National Highway 30 (NH-30), blocked the road, and engaged in widespread arson. Agitated protesters set fire to three police jeeps, a police check post, and several buses. The situation spiraled out of control, resulting in a traffic jam stretching approximately 10 kilometers, leaving many schoolchildren stranded for hours.

As the unrest escalated, senior district administration officials and additional police forces were dispatched to the scene. Patna City SDM Satyam Sahay stated that efforts are underway to identify those involved in the violence. He confirmed that the body has been removed from the road and traffic flow has been fully restored.
