Popular actor Pradeep Rawat has passed away at the age of 74. Actor Yashpal Sharma shared the news on social media, writing, “Pradeep Rawat—our ‘Ghajini’ and ‘Lagaan’s’ Deva—is no more. Rest in peace.” He also included a sad emoji in the post.
Actors Express Grief
News of his passing has sent a wave of grief through the industry. Actor Brijendra Kala reacted by writing, “Very sad. Om Shanti.” Actress Jaya Bhattacharya also paid tribute to him.
Pradeep Rawat was born on January 21, 1952. He was 74 years old. He was married to Kalyani Rawat, and they had two children.
Famous for Villainous Roles
Looking at his career, he worked in Telugu, Hindi, and Tamil cinema, making the journey from television to films. He was best known for playing villainous roles. Pradeep first gained recognition through B.R. Chopra’s Mahabharat, in which he played the role of Ashwatthama.
Pradeep began his career in Telugu cinema in 2004 with the film Sye. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Villain for this performance. He remained consistently active in Telugu cinema; he appeared in Gaayapadda Simham in 2026. Prior to that, in 2023, he played the role of David in Waltair Veerayya.
Appearances in Hindi Films
Regarding his career in Hindi cinema, he made his debut in 1985, appearing as a police inspector in the film Aetbaar. Subsequently, he appeared in Meri Jung. He acted in numerous films, including Aap Ke Saath, Samundar, Kaash, Insaaf, Mar Mitenge, Awaargi, Agneepath, Baaghi, Kayda Kanoon, Kohra, Jazbaat, Insaniyat, Policewala Gunda, Rajkumar, Koyla, and Deewaar. He also worked in the 2001 film Lagaan. In this film, he played the role of Deva Singh Sodhi. He also appeared in Shabri (2011), Grand Masti (2013), Singh Is Bliing (2015), and Chhaava (2025).
