The flood situation in Navsari, Gujarat, continues to worsen. Shantadevi Road is completely submerged, having virtually turned into a river. Approximately 20,000 people have been affected by the floods.

The monsoon has intensified in Gujarat. Heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours across South, North, and Central Gujarat has severely disrupted normal life. Several areas in Valsad, Navsari, Surat, and Tapi districts are inundated. One person has died in Tapi district. NDRF and SDRF teams are engaged in relief operations.
Around 1,200 people have been rescued across the state, and thousands of others have been moved to safer locations. The Umargam taluka of Valsad recorded over 1,100 mm of rainfall in just 16 hours.
In Valsad, 50 parked cars were submerged. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the disaster control room to take stock of the situation arising from the heavy rains. Schools and colleges in the affected districts have been closed for the next two days.
According to data released by the State Emergency Operations Center, 1,100 mm of rainfall was recorded in Valsad district and up to 600 mm in talukas of Surat district over the last 24 hours. The Auranga, Par, and Daman rivers are flowing above the danger mark.
The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Valsad, Navsari, Dang, Surat, and Tapi for the next 24 hours. A ‘Red Alert’ has been declared for 11 districts in South Gujarat, including Dahod, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Bharuch, Narmada, Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari, and Valsad.
Between 6:00 AM and 4:00 PM on Thursday, Khergam in Navsari recorded 407 mm of rainfall, while Umarpada in Surat recorded 381 mm. Heavy rains have severely disrupted road and rail traffic in several districts of the state.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is personally monitoring the situation from the disaster control room in Gandhinagar, while some ministers have been dispatched to the affected districts to assist the local administration. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi has also arrived in South Gujarat to take stock of the flood situation.
Personnel from the NDRF, SDRF, fire brigade, and the Army have been deployed in Navsari and Valsad to assist the public. While thousands of people have been moved to safety, 35 passengers trapped in a bus amidst floodwaters in Valsad were successfully rescued.
Kanubhai Desai, the Minister in-charge of Navsari district, visited the disaster control room to assess the situation and issued necessary directives to the District Collector regarding relief and rescue operations. The Juj and Kelia dams in the district are overflowing.
One dead due to heavy rain in Palghar, Maharashtra
One person died and approximately 900 people were rescued due to heavy rainfall in Maharashtra’s Palghar district. According to officials, torrential overnight rains disrupted the power supply, leaving around two lakh people without electricity.
Low-lying areas of the district have been inundated. The IMD has issued a ‘Red Alert’ for Palghar district, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall in some areas and strong winds blowing at speeds of 60–70 kmph. In Nashik district, the Godavari and other rivers are in spate following continuous rainfall over the past two days.
