The Supreme Court refused an urgent hearing on a petition regarding the Delhi Police’s alleged actions against student protesters. The petitioner had urged the court to view videos of the police action during the protest and to take suo motu cognizance of the matter.
During the hearing, the lawyer informed the Chief Justice (CJI) that there were multiple videos showing the police’s alleged harshness towards the protesters and requested the court to intervene after viewing them. In response, the CJI stated, “We are not interested in watching videos. We do not have the time to watch videos.” He further told the lawyer, “Do not waste the court’s time, and do not waste your own time either.”
It was argued on behalf of the petitioner that the protesting students were raising significant issues related to education. These demands included the fair and smooth conduct of the NEET examination and reforms within the National Testing Agency (NTA). The students maintain that necessary reforms should be implemented to enhance transparency and credibility in the examination system.
However, the Supreme Court declined to intervene immediately or take suo motu cognizance of the matter at this stage.
