Incidents of landslides, waterlogging, and traffic disruptions have been reported from various locations due to the continuous downpour. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several areas.
Landslide in Pune’s Patan Village; House Buried Under Debris
A landslide occurred amidst heavy rain on Monday morning in a small, remote village called Patan in Pune district. A house was buried under the debris during the incident. Preliminary reports suggest that the entire family residing in the house may be trapped beneath the rubble. Upon receiving the information, the local administration, police, and rescue teams rushed to the site. Relief and rescue operations are currently underway. According to the District Information Office, there has been no official confirmation of any deaths or injuries so far.
NDRF Team Engaged in Rescue Operations
Given the gravity of the situation, the Pune-based National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed to the site. A team comprising officers and trained personnel is engaged in clearing the debris and rescuing those trapped. The administration is closely monitoring the situation.
Landslides at Two Locations on Mumbai-Pune Rail Route; Several Trains Cancelled
Continuous rain triggered landslides at two locations in the Bhor Ghat section between Karjat and Lonavala, affecting all three railway lines of Central Railway. Consequently, rail services between Mumbai and Pune have been severely disrupted. The railways have cancelled several trains and diverted others, while some are operating on a curtailed schedule. Traffic on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the old Mumbai-Pune Highway has been temporarily suspended due to heavy rainfall and debris falling from the hills. Authorities have advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel and remain in safe locations until weather conditions normalize. Efforts to clear the roads and restore traffic flow are currently underway.
Waterlogging in Several Districts; Schools and Colleges Closed
Continuous rainfall has led to waterlogging on roads across several districts, including Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Raigad. Movement has been disrupted in many low-lying areas due to the accumulation of water. As a precautionary measure, a decision has been made to keep schools and colleges closed in several districts and to postpone examinations at some universities.

The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several regions over the next few hours. Authorities have urged the public to stay away from rivers, streams, hilly areas, and landslide-prone zones.
