According to reports, a group of people were performing kirtan by the roadside near Kataiya Chowk on the occasion of Jhulan Puja. At that moment, a speeding vehicle coming from the direction of Pipra suddenly went out of control and struck the people performing the kirtan.

A speeding vehicle wreaked havoc late Tuesday night in the Pipra police station area of Bihar’s Supaul district. Near Kataiya Chowk, a speeding four-wheeler ran over a group of people performing kirtan (devotional singing) during the Jhulan Puja festival near a Bajrangbali temple by the side of National Highway-327E. Five people died in the tragic accident, while one person sustained serious injuries. Chaos ensued at the scene following the incident.
According to reports, a group of people were sitting by the roadside near Kataiya Chowk, performing kirtan for Jhulan Puja. Suddenly, a speeding vehicle coming from the direction of Pipra lost control and plowed into the group. After running over the people, the vehicle traveled another 50 meters before crashing into a roadside shop.
Tilai Das (65), Raju Das (50), Surendra Yadav (45), Bhuvneshwari Yadav (alias Koyli Yadav), and Krishna Mohan Sah died on the spot. Ramchandra Yadav was critically injured. All the deceased were residents of Kataiya Panchayat. Grief and shock gripped the families of the victims upon receiving the news; the relatives are inconsolable. Locals initiated relief and rescue operations immediately after the accident and rushed the injured person to the hospital.
Upon receiving the information, the Pipra police arrived at the scene. The police have seized the vehicle involved in the accident and launched an investigation to determine the exact cause. Late Tuesday night, the District Magistrate and senior police officials visited the hospital. Meanwhile, there is outrage among the villagers following the deaths of the five individuals.
Villagers state that encroachments and temporary shops along the national highway disrupt traffic flow and increase the risk of accidents. They have demanded that the administration remove all temporary roadside shops and encroachments to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
