The Congress stated that this indicates large-scale corruption and misappropriation of funds in the construction of the expressway. Targeting the central government, the party alleged that the quality of development projects has been consistently declining during the tenure of the current government.
ढाई महीने में ही ₹12,000 करोड़ से बना दिल्ली-देहरादून एक्सप्रेसवे गया गड्ढे में, मोदी ने इसी साल अप्रैल में किया था भव्य उद्घाटन
Large potholes have appeared at various points along the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway—which was grandly inaugurated by Modi just this April—within a span of only two and a half months. Images of these potholes are going viral on social media, raising questions about the expressway’s condition. The very first spell of rain has exposed the poor quality of the expressway’s construction.
Following the emergence of these videos, the Congress party has targeted the government. On Thursday, the Congress accused the Modi government of large-scale corruption in infrastructure projects. Describing the Modi government as detrimental to the country and the public, the party claimed that this corruption is compromising the quality of public projects. In a post on X, the Congress stated, “Large potholes have appeared on the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway—inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 14, 2026—within just two months of its opening. This expressway was constructed at a cost of ₹12,000 crore. This indicates massive corruption and misappropriation of funds in the expressway’s construction.”
The Congress claimed that this is not an isolated incident. Across the country, the condition of various infrastructure projects—such as bridges, roads, highways, water tanks, railway stations, and airports—is deteriorating. Targeting the central government, the Congress alleged that the quality of development projects has been consistently declining during the current government’s tenure, and the country and the common people are bearing the brunt of this. The party asserted that, ultimately, it is clear the Modi government is detrimental to the nation and its people.
It is worth noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor on April 14 of this year. It was hailed as a major achievement for Uttarakhand and the surrounding region. The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway begins near Delhi’s Akshardham Temple and extends to Dehradun. The route passes through several cities in Uttar Pradesh, including Baghpat, Baraut, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, and Saharanpur.
A dedicated road has also been constructed to connect Haridwar to this route. The expressway links to the Char Dham Highway, which connects major pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand. According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, this highway reduces the distance between the two cities from 235 km to 212 km and cuts travel time from the current 6.5 hours to just 2.5 hours once fully operational. However, the appearance of large potholes mere months after the inauguration has raised questions regarding the quality of the expressway.
