According to news agencies, the attacks occurred early Saturday morning. Several loud explosions were heard in Caracas, the Venezuelan capital, and low-flying aircraft were observed. According to Reuters, aircraft roared through the sky over Caracas, dropping bombs that shook buildings, and plumes of smoke were seen rising above the city.
Following the explosions, the US took a significant security measure, prohibiting all US civilian aircraft from entering Venezuelan airspace. A notification issued by the US Federal Aviation Administration cited security risks as the reason for the restriction.
