जनवरी में वेज थाली की कीमतें बढ़ीं, नॉन-वेज भोजन की कीमतें घटीं

According to a report by Crisil Market Intelligence and Analytics, vegetarians spent 5 per cent more per plate in January 2024 compared to January 2023 due to paying higher prices for onions, tomatoes, rice and pulses in their households.

On the other hand, the price of home-cooked non-vegetarian thali declined by 13 per cent last month due to nearly 26 per cent decline in the price of chicken as compared to the prevailing rates in January 2023.

The cost of the vegetarian thali witnessed an increase due to an increase of 35% and 20% in the prices of onion and tomato respectively. Prices of rice (which accounts for 12% of the cost of a vegetable thali) and pulses (9%) have also increased by 14% and 21% respectively, the report said.

According to the report, the price reduction in non-veg thali was due to a nearly 26% year-on-year decline in broiler prices amid higher production. What is a matter of relief for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians is that the price of their thalis fell by 6% and 8% respectively in January 2024 as compared to December 2023.
