A helicopter of a private company crashed near Kedarnath in Uttarakhand on Sunday, killing seven people, including six devotees on board. Rudraprayag District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar told that the accident took place above the forests of Gaurikund. The pilot and an infant are also among those killed in this accident.
He said that at around 5:30 am, the helicopter took off from Kedarnath to Guptkashi and suddenly it crashed. Rajwar said that it is estimated that the accident happened due to poor visibility due to bad weather. He said that relief and rescue teams have been dispatched.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said in a message on social media that very sad news of the helicopter crash has been received and other agencies including the State Disaster Response Force are engaged in relief and rescue operations.
The Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority said in a statement that a helicopter going from Shri Kedarnath Dham to Guptkashi has been reported to have crashed near Gaurikund at around 5:20 am today. There were 6 passengers (5 adults and 1 child) including the pilot in the helicopter. The passengers in the helicopter are from Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat. NDRF and SDRF teams have been sent to the spot for relief and rescue.
Earlier, on May 8, a helicopter going to Gangotri Dham crashed in Uttarkashi district in which six people died. On June 7, a helicopter going to Kedarnath had to make an emergency landing on the road due to a technical fault as soon as it took off, in which the pilot was injured but the five devotees on board were saved safely.
