Rain and landslide havoc in Chamoli
Tara Singh and his wife have gone missing due to cloudburst in Mopata village of Dewal area of Chamoli district. Two people have been injured and many houses and cattle sheds have been buried under the debris. About 15 to 20 cattle are reported to be buried. Teams have been sent by the administration for relief and rescue work, which include teams from the health, electricity, water, construction and animal husbandry departments.
Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway submerged in Alaknanda
Due to the torrential rains in the mountainous regions for the past few days, the water level of the Alaknanda river is continuously increasing rapidly. Its direct effect is being seen in Srinagar and surrounding areas. The ghats situated on the river bank have become completely submerged. Also, the river water has now reached the link road leading to the famous religious place Dhari Devi. The Alaknanda river has reached very close to the Dhari Devi temple. The water of Alaknanda is flowing on the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway near Sirobgadh.
Alaknanda is about to touch the danger mark
According to the latest data released by the Irrigation Department at 8 am on Friday, the water level of the Alaknanda river has reached 335.50 meters. This is just 2 inches below the danger mark. According to departmental officials, if the intensity of rain remains the same, the water level may increase even more. In view of the seriousness of the situation, the administration has instructed the people living near the river bank to remain alert and take necessary precautions. The control room has been activated by the district administration. Along with this, the local police and disaster management teams are also alert.
Fear among people living near the river
Apart from this, water is also being released continuously by the Srinagar Hydro Power Project located on the Alaknanda river, which can cause waterlogging in the low-lying areas. There is an atmosphere of fear and anxiety among the local people, especially those whose homes or businesses are located near the river.

The Meteorological Department has predicted more rain in the next 48 hours, which may worsen the situation. The administration has appealed to the public to avoid rumors, contact the administration in case of any emergency.
Heavy damage in Tehri Garhwal and Rudraprayag too
The water level of the Balganga and Dharmganga rivers has increased due to heavy rains in the Bhilangana area of Tehri Garhwal district. Bridges, fields and water lines have been damaged due to debris from the landslide in the Nailchami area. A cloudburst has also occurred in Genwali Bhilangana, but there is no news of any casualties there. Cloudburst has also been reported in Rudraprayag district. The administration has immediately sent relief teams and the damage is being assessed.
Traffic disrupted in the state
Due to heavy rains and landslides at many places, movement on roads has become difficult across the state. Many national highways have been closed. Public Works Department teams are working to remove debris and open roads.
