Uttarakhand | Landslide in Gaurikund, many people buried under debris, rescue continues

In Uttarakhand, a big accident has happened in Gaurikund of Rudraprayag during the Chardham Yatra. According to the SDRF, 13 people have been buried under the debris due to the landslide. Gaurikund, where the accident took place, is the main stop of the yatra. It is being told that two shops were hit by debris falling from the hill late in the night. Many people were sleeping in the shops at the time of the accident. These include Nepalese and local people.

Due to the rain, there is a problem in running the rescue operation. According to the Meteorological Department, there are chances of heavy rains in Rudraprayag today. There is a possibility of light rain on 5 August and heavy rain on 6 August. Heavy rains have caused devastation in the entire area. Due to the rain, the Mandakini river is in spate. Landslide has occurred in front of Dak Pulia due to heavy rains.

According to IMD, till August 6, heavy rain is expected in different areas of Uttarakhand. On Thursday, the Meteorological Department had issued an orange alert regarding heavy rains for Bageshwar, Nainital and Champawat districts. Rain was predicted. In view of the heavy alert, schools up to class 12 and Anganwadi centers were closed in all the three districts. Apart from this, the Meteorological Department had issued a yellow alert for Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri and Udham Singh Nagar.
