Uttarakhand / Haridwar: On the last day of the Kanwar Yatra, there was chaos in Haridwar late at night. Kanwar pilgrims had a fierce altercation with the police. Meanwhile, the Kanwarias started pelting stones, due to which outpost in-charge Ashok Rawat was seriously injured.

The injured policeman has been sent to the hospital. Also, there is a huge crowd of Kanwariyas and pressure of vehicles on the bridge. Shyampur police station in-charge Nitish Sharma said that there was a dispute over removing the postal vehicle. Chandi Chowk in-charge has suffered an injury in his hand. SSP Pramod Dobal said that many miscreants had also reached Haridwar on the pretext of pilgrimage. Who have tried to spoil the atmosphere. Action will be taken after identifying all of them.

4.4 crore Kanwar pilgrims reached Haridwar

Thursday was the last day of Kanwar Mela and on Friday, Jalabhishek will be done in Shivalaya. On the last day, postal Kanwar pilgrims were traveling from Haridwar all night on water bikes and big vehicles. This time 4 crore 4 lakh 40 thousand Kanwar pilgrims have reached the fair. The administration has released these figures till 6 pm on Thursday. Last year four crore seven lakh Kanwar pilgrims had reached Haridwar.

Kanwar Mela has started from 22 July. Jalabhishek will be done today on Friday. By 6 pm on Thursday, 77 lakh Kanwar pilgrims had left for their destination after filling Ganga water in the religious city. This time the crowd of Dak Kanwar pilgrims swelled on the last day itself. Earlier Kanwar pilgrims used to go on foot. Since Thursday night, devotees from nearby districts are entering the Ganga.

Senior Superintendent of Police Pramod Singh Dobal said that so far 4 crore 4 lakh, 40 thousand Kanwariya devotees have reached the Kanwar fair. On Thursday, three lakh 38 thousand 277 small and big vehicle Kanwariyas arrived. Six Kanwariyas have been saved from drowning while three have died.
