Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami introduced the UCC i.e. Uniform Civil Code Bill in the state assembly. Congress has demanded that this bill be discussed first. On the other hand, after the introduction of Uniform Civil Code 2024 in the House, the proceedings of Uttarakhand Assembly have been adjourned till 2 pm.
Uttarakhand Assembly’s LOP Yashpal Arya said that we are not against it (Uniform Civil Code). The House is governed by the rules of conduct of business but BJP is continuously ignoring it and wants to suppress the voice of the MLAs on the basis of power.
It is the right of MLAs to express their views during Question Hour in the House, whether they have a motion under Rule 58 or under other rules, they have the right to raise their voice on various issues of the state.
On the UCC bill, former Uttarakhand CM and Congress leader Harish Rawat said that the state government and the Chief Minister are very eager to get it passed and the rules are not being followed… No one has its draft copy and they Want immediate discussion on this… Central government is using a sensitive state like Uttarakhand for symbolism, if they want to bring UCC, it should have been brought by the central government.
