Uttarakhand CM Dhami reaches Uttarkashi, to visit Dharali village

Five people were killed and 400 were rescued in a devastating flood in the Kheer Ganga river due to a cloudburst in Uttarakhand’s Dharali village on Tuesday.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will be in Uttarkashi today and will keep a close watch on relief and rescue operations in Dharali. The Chief Minister is also reviewing the rescue operation by holding meetings with officials continuously. The Chief Minister said that rescue operations are being carried out with full readiness by SDRF, NDRF, Army, ITBP and local administration.

Former CM Harish Rawat expressed grief over Dharali disaster

Former Chief Minister Harish Rawat has expressed deep grief over the massive disaster caused by cloudburst and floods in Dharali village of Uttarkashi district. He said that this incident is highly worrying and sad. According to sources, about 75 people are reported to be missing, including 6 to 8 army personnel. He informed that a small army camp at the mouth of Kheerganga has also been washed away, four deaths have been confirmed. Former CM Rawat said that Dharali was developing as a modern village, where there was good farming, horticulture, homestays and markets. He feared that the number of casualties could be much more than 75, only the administration will be able to assess the loss correctly.

This is the reason why the ITBP NDRF and SDRF team which was going to Dharali from Uttarkashi and Dehradun got stuck on the way. At present, the work of repairing the road is going on but there is no immediate relief in sight. Bhatwadi DFO Baluni says that it may take several hours to repair the road and this is the only road through which one can go to Dharali.

Seven teams of Indian Army on the front

The Indian Army said in a statement that the Indian Army has launched a rapid and coordinated Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operation after the devastating cloudburst near Dharali near Harshil in Uttarakhand. The area is currently cut off from both north and south with several roads damaged and a bridge collapsed. Over 225 army personnel, including infantry and engineering teams, are deployed on the ground for search, rescue and relief operations. 7 teams with Reico radars are working near Tekla. Search and rescue dogs are deployed at Harshil; more dogs are arriving from remount and veterinary centres.
