The Chamoli district administration said that due to heavy rains, the upper region of the Tamak drain between Surahithota and Jumma was flooded at 2 am late night, due to which the cement and concrete bridge built there was washed away.

Due to heavy rains on the Jyotirmath-Malari highway in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, a bridge built there was washed away due to floods in the Tamak rain drain late Saturday night, due to which motor connectivity of more than a dozen villages in the border area of Niti Valley and the army and paramilitary forces deployed on the border was cut off.
The Chamoli district administration said that due to heavy rains in the upper region of the Tamak drain between Surahithota and Jumma, there was a flood at 2 o’clock late night, due to which the cement and concrete bridge built there was washed away.
There is no report of any loss of life in this incident that took place in this area located on the banks of Dhauliganga, a tributary of the Alaknanda river.
Due to the bridge being washed away, motor connectivity of more than a dozen tribal villages in the border area of Niti Valley beyond Tamak and the army and paramilitary forces deployed on the border has been disrupted. About three years ago, the Jumma motor bridge about five kilometers ahead of here was also washed away in a similar way.
Meanwhile, the Badrinath National Highway is closed due to debris at two places – Bhanirpani and Pagalnala between Chamoli and Jyotirmath. The district administration said that debris is being removed with machines to restore traffic on the route.
The Kund-Chamoli National Highway connecting Kedarnath to Chamoli is also blocked by a landslide near Bairagana, efforts are on to open it. Electricity is affected in Jyotirmath area due to rain.
