Uttarakhand | 3 Dead, 8 Injured Due To Landslide On Kedarnath Yatra Route

Rudraprayag District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar said that the accident took place around 7.30 am near Cheerbasa on the Gaurikund-Kedarnath walking route, where debris and heavy boulders started falling down from the hill.

Three devotees were killed and eight others were injured after a landslide hit a hill on Sunday morning on the footpath to Kedarnath Dham in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. Officials said two devotees from Maharashtra were among the dead.

Rudraprayag District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar said that the accident took place at around 7:30 am near Chidwasa, three kilometers ahead of Gaurikund on the Gaurikund-Kedarnath walking route, where the devotees passing by were hit by debris and heavy stones that suddenly fell from the hill.

According to Rajwar, as soon as the incident was reported, police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and disaster management teams reached the spot and started search and rescue operations.

SDRF sources said that so far the bodies of three devotees have been recovered from the debris, while eight people were rescued in an injured condition and immediately rushed to the hospital. The search operation is still on.

According to reports, these devotees were going to visit Kedarnath Dham and had set out on foot from Gaurikund in the morning. He said that the deceased have been identified as Kishore Arun Parate (31), resident of Nagpur (Maharashtra), Sunil Mahadev Kale (24), resident of Jalna (Maharashtra) and Anurag Bisht, resident of Tilwara (Rudraprayag).

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed grief over the incident. In a post on social media, the Chief Minister described the incident as tragic and prayed to God to give place to the souls of the deceased in his lotus feet and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this grief.

Dhami said, “Relief and rescue work is going on at the site of the incident. I am constantly in touch with the officials. I have given instructions to provide better treatment to the people injured in the accident immediately.”
