A shopkeeper was shot dead in Raghopur village under Rasra police station area of ​​Ballia district in Uttar Pradesh following a dispute over purchasing goods. Police provided this information on Friday.

According to the police, all five accused were arrested in an encounter within seven hours of the incident. Police said that Santosh Singh alias Bagi (48), a resident of Belasdi village under Kasimabad police station area of ​​neighboring Ghazipur district, owned a tea stall next to a liquor shop in Raghopur village of Rasra police station area.

Police said that on Thursday night, around 10 pm, when he was closing his shop and going home, a dispute arose with some people over the purchase of goods, and he was shot dead. They said that Santosh Singh sustained gunshot wounds to his head and stomach.

Rasra area Circle Officer (CO) Alok Gupta said that the police have taken the body into custody and sent it for post-mortem examination.

He said that based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s son, Aditya Singh, a case has been registered against Praveen Singh, a resident of Shekhanpur village under Kasimabad police station area of ​​Ghazipur district, and two unknown persons under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The CO said that on Friday morning, around 5 am, a Rasra police team was conducting a search for the accused on Mundera Road, Katuhara, in the police station area. When the police team attempted to question some suspicious individuals, the accused opened fire on the police team.

He said that the police retaliated in self-defense and arrested Manjeet Singh alias Om Singh (27), a resident of Madahi village under Kasimabad police station area of ​​Ghazipur district, Sandeep Singh alias Golu Singh (23), Atul Singh alias Babbu Singh (21), Prabhat Singh alias Bunty (22), and Praveen Singh alias Golu (27), all residents of Khajurgaon.

The CO said that Manjeet Singh and Sandeep Singh sustained gunshot wounds to their left legs during the encounter and have been admitted to the district hospital.

Police recovered three motorcycles, country-made pistols, and cartridges from the possession of the accused. He said that further action is underway.
