Unseasonal rains, hailstorms, thunderstorms and lightning in various parts of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday killed five people in Firozabad, Siddharth Nagar and Sitapur. The Chief Minister has directed the District Magistrates to visit the affected areas and provide immediate assistance to the affected people.

Firozabad’s Additional District Magistrate Vishu Raja said that the first incident of lightning occurred in village Daulatpur of Tehsil Sadar area Narkhi police station area, in which Lalita Devi (30), a woman working on the field, died due to lightning. The second incident is from village Chanari of Thana Jasrana area, where farmer Padam Veer Singh (32), working on the field, died due to lightning.

40-year-old laborer Ghanshyam died after being struck by lightning in Siddharth Nagar. Officials said that the incident took place in Gaura Mangua village when Ghanshyam was going to work in the rain. Two persons died in two separate incidents of lightning and wall collapse due to heavy rains in Sitapur. Police said that Harishchandra (25), who was working in the field, died due to lightning in Moch Khurd of Biswan police station area, while Kusuma Devi (55) died due to the collapse of a wall due to heavy rains in Rasulpur village under Sakran police station.

Meanwhile, the Lucknow office of the India Meteorological Department has issued district-wise warnings of rain and lightning for Thursday. The Meteorological Department has said that many districts including Kaushambi, Varanasi, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Lucknow, Barabanki, Rae Bareli may receive heavy rain and lightning. According to an official statement, the Chief Minister on Thursday directed the District Magistrates to visit the affected areas, strictly monitor the relief efforts and provide immediate assistance to the people affected by the adverse weather. He also directed that a detailed assessment of the damage to crops be done and its report be submitted to the state government immediately. This will help the administration to take appropriate action and provide assistance to the affected farmers. Various parts of the state including Lucknow witnessed thunderstorms and heavy rains on Thursday. Lightning has also struck at many places.
