The electricity workers of Uttar Pradesh have declared a fight to the finish against the privatization of Purvanchal and Dakshinchal Vidyut Vitran Nigams. This announcement was made after a huge rally organized in Lucknow today under the banner of Vidyut Karamchari Samyukta Sangharsh Samiti UP. In the general meeting held after this rally, it was unanimously decided to boycott work indefinitely from 29 May.
According to the Sangharsh Samiti, this movement against privatization will run in a phased manner. A public awareness campaign will be run from 16 April to 30 April. In which protest will be expressed by giving memorandum to MPs and MLAs. On the occasion of Labor Day on 1 May, bike rallies will be taken out across the state. After this, there will be a gradual hunger strike at Shakti Bhawan headquarters from 2 to 9 May, in which electricity workers from the state as well as North India will participate.
On May 20, there will be a massive protest in all energy corporations
After this, there will be a “work movement according to the rules” from 14 May to 19 May, in which the employees will be limited only to their prescribed duty. On May 20, a massive protest will be held in all the energy corporations and from May 21 to 28, there will be a three-hour work boycott from 2 pm to 5 pm every day. If the government still does not agree, then an indefinite work boycott will be started from May 29.

Top leaders of electricity workers’ organizations from many states across the country participated in the rally and announced support to the electricity workers of UP. These included representatives from many states including Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand. This meeting was addressed by many leaders including All India Power Engineers Federation Chairman Shailendra Dubey, AIFEE Secretary General Mohan Sharma, All India Power Diploma Engineers Federation President RK Trivedi and ATETWA President Vijay Bandhu.
27 lakh electricity workers across the country will protest
The speakers warned that if any employee is harassed or the privatization process is not withdrawn, then 27 lakh electricity workers across the country will be forced to protest nationwide. The main office bearers of Vidyut Karamchari Samyukta Sangharsh Samiti, UP, present in this meeting, opposed privatization in one voice and resolved to make the struggle decisive, about 25,000 employees participated in this rally.
