Some people allegedly attacked a Dalit couple and their family with sticks and rods in a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi district, a police official said on Sunday.
The incident took place in Unj police station area’s Anichch village on Friday morning when Deepak Kumar Pasi complained to village resident Rajaram Yadav about cattle destroying his urad crop in a sharecropping field, the official said.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhimanyu Mangalik said, citing the complaint, that Yadav and his family got angry and attacked Deepak with sticks and rods, using casteist slurs.
He said Deepak’s wife was dragged by her hair in the field and beaten up, and Deepak’s family members who came to his rescue were also attacked. The SP said Deepak and his wife were admitted to a hospital and the other four members of his family suffered minor injuries.

After this, the victim’s family appealed to the Superintendent of Police on Saturday. Abhimanyu Mangalik said that after registering the case, the responsibility of further investigation has been handed over to Police Circle Officer Chaman Singh Chawda.
