CM Yogi said, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development is the strong base of the rural economy of the state. This sector is not limited to milk production only, but it also has vast possibilities of livelihood, nutrition security and women empowerment. He said that this sector should be further strengthened by promoting technology, investment and innovation.
How many cow shelters in UP?
The Chief Minister was informed that at present 11.49 lakh cows are protected in 7,693 cow shelters of the state, which are being monitored by CCTV and inspection is also being done from time to time. The CM directed that deployment of employees for care in these shelters, timely payment of salary to them, establishment of straw bank, adequate availability of water, green fodder and bran should be ensured.
The CM said, animal doctors should also visit the shelters from time to time. Poor families who do not have livestock should be made available cows under the Chief Minister Nirashrit Govansh Sahyog Yojana. On one hand, this will give the families the virtue of cow service, on the other hand, the availability of milk will also improve the nutrition level of the family.
What did the CM say in the meeting?
In this meeting, the Chief Minister said that a competition of indigenous breed cows should be organized at the divisional level and good cow shelters should be identified and honored. Similarly, competition should also be organized among the organizations making cow-based products.
Officials told the chief minister that encroachments have been removed from 40,968.29 hectares of pasture land, out of which 12,168.78 hectares of land has been dedicated for green fodder production.
This initiative is also generating rural employment, in which women self-help groups are actively involved, he said. A total of 21,884 Gausevaks have been trained and deployed. In Bareilly, the establishment of organic manure and cow urine processing plants at large Gau Sanrakshan Kendras in collaboration with IFFCO is in progress. Officials said the target for the financial year 2025-26 is to establish 4,922 cooperative milk societies.
