In a landmark verdict in the sensational 2016 mother-daughter gang rape case that shook Uttar Pradesh and the entire nation, the Bulandshahr court has pronounced its final judgment. The Bulandshahr Chief POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Court has sentenced all five accused in this heinous crime to life imprisonment. The court had convicted the accused on December 20, 2025, and the sentence was announced today.

Along with the sentence, the court has also imposed a fine of Rs 1,81,000 on each of the convicts.

What was the entire case?

On the night of July 29, 2016, a family from Noida was traveling by car to Shahjahanpur to attend a family mourning ceremony. When their car reached near Dostpur village on NH-91 in the Kotwali Dehat area of Bulandshahr, miscreants forced the car to stop by throwing iron rods onto the road. The criminals then held the entire family hostage at gunpoint and dragged them into nearby fields. There, the perpetrators committed a horrific act, gang-raping the mother and her 14-year-old minor daughter. Other family members were also brutally beaten for resisting.

The police initially named 11 people as accused, of whom 3 were given a clean chit during the CBI investigation. Two accused were killed in police encounters (in Haryana and Noida). Additionally, one accused died during the trial. The CBI presented 25 witnesses in this case. Finally, the court found all five guilty under Sections 394, 395, 397, 376D, 120B of the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act.

Questions raised about women’s safety

Following this incident, action was taken against 17 police officers. The victims stated that they had made hundreds of calls to the emergency number 100, but received no help from the police. This incident raised serious questions about women’s safety in Uttar Pradesh. The culprits showed no remorse.

What was shocking was that despite being sentenced, the main accused, Zubair, showed no sign of remorse. When he was brought to court on December 20, he brazenly told the media personnel, “Shoot the video properly and make me famous.”
