A tragic road accident occurred in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. Late Tuesday night, a speeding Alto car lost control and plunged into the Sharda Canal on the Dhakherwa-Girjapuri Highway. Five people died on the spot, while the young man driving the car was seriously injured.
Police stated that all the deceased and injured were from the same village and were returning from a wedding. The accident occurred late at night. Due to darkness and high speed, the driver lost control of the car and it plunged directly into the canal. The water level in the canal was very high, causing the car to sink completely.
Padua police arrived at the scene upon receiving information. With the help of villagers, the car was pulled out of the canal using a crane. Five bodies trapped inside the car were recovered. The identities of the deceased have not yet been fully established, but preliminary information suggests that all were young people who had gone to attend a DJ party at the wedding.
The injured driver was immediately evacuated and admitted to the Community Health Center (CHC) Ramiya Behad, where his condition remains critical. Doctors reported serious injuries to his head and chest.
The area is mourning the accident. The simultaneous deaths of five people from the same village have plunged the entire region into grief. Locals are demanding the administration to tighten security measures due to the frequent accidents on the highway.
The police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Prima facie, speeding and the driver’s negligence are believed to be the main causes of the accident.
