Under-construction bridge crumbles in Bihar’s Motihari, third incident in a week

This is the third bridge collapse in the state within a week. Earlier, bridges have also collapsed in Araria and Siwan.

Another bridge accident has happened in Bihar. This was an under-construction project in Motihari, whose estimated cost is said to be around Rs 2 crore. The construction of this bridge was going on in Ghodasahan block of Motihari in East Champaran. The bridge collapsed during casting. The length of the bridge was about 50 feet.

This is the third bridge to collapse in the state within a week. Earlier, bridges have collapsed in Araria and Siwan as well. A bridge collapsed in Siwan yesterday. The bridge connecting the border of Maharajganj-Daronda assembly collapsed. Local people said that it is surprising that the bridge weakened and collapsed without any rain. This time there was neither a storm nor rain, yet the bridge built on the canal connecting Patedi-Garauli of Maharajganj area collapsed.

On the accident, the DM said that the pillars collapsed due to the release of water from the canal. This bridge was built on the canal connecting the villages of Daronda and Maharajganj blocks. Fortunately, there were no casualties in this accident.

According to Daronda BDO Surya Pratap Singh, local people claim that the bridge was built in 1991 with the contribution of the then Maharajganj MLA Uma Shankar Singh. This 20 feet long bridge was constructed from MLA fund.

Earlier on Tuesday, a newly constructed bridge of about 180 meters collapsed in Araria. This bridge was built on Bakra river in Sikti of Araria. The bridge was yet to be inaugurated. The bridge collapsed before the inauguration. The bridge was constructed at a cost of Rs 12 crore on Bakra river in Sikti block.
