UGC ने रैगिंग के आरोपों के बाद धर्मशाला कॉलेज के छात्र की मौत की जांच के आदेश दिए

Taking serious note of the death of a student at Government Degree College, Dharamshala, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has constituted a fact-finding committee to investigate the causes of death. This step was taken after the death of a 19-year-old second-year student on December 26 while undergoing treatment at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana. The student’s family has alleged that she was subjected to prolonged harassment on campus, which severely affected her physical and mental health.

The UGC stated that the fact-finding committee will review the sequence of events and examine whether the existing anti-ragging and grievance redressal systems were properly implemented by the institution. The higher education regulator said that strict action will be taken against those found responsible.

Case registered against professor

Meanwhile, the Himachal Pradesh Police have also registered a case and launched their investigation. A case has been registered against a professor for the alleged sexual harassment of the 19-year-old woman. The deceased’s father alleged in his complaint that on September 18, 2025, his daughter was beaten by three female students, Harshita, Akriti, and Komolika, while college professor Ashok Kumar allegedly made indecent advances towards her. Following the assault and harassment, the student was hospitalized and later died during treatment.

What is the whole case?

The deceased’s father alleged that after these incidents, his daughter was living under severe mental stress and fear, which caused her condition to deteriorate rapidly. He stated that his daughter was in shock and had to be hospitalized. A video related to this incident went viral on social media.

The student had enrolled in the college in 2024. During this time, some female students allegedly ragged her. The student failed her first-year BA exams. After failing, she stopped attending college. Then, on August 21, 2025, her name was removed from the college records. When the student returned to college in September, she was asked to reappear for the first-year exams.
