US President Donald Trump warned Russia that if it doesn’t end the long-running war with Ukraine, the US could send long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.
Trump made this statement while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One while en route to Israel.
During his visit, President Trump said, “I would say, if this war doesn’t end, I would send them Tomahawks. The Tomahawk is an excellent weapon, a very offensive weapon…”
Trump told reporters, “I would tell them, if the war doesn’t end, we could do that.” However, Trump added, “It’s possible we won’t do that, and it’s also possible we might do that. I think that’s something we should keep.”
Donald Trump’s comments came after a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday. Trump said he had mentioned the possibility of sending Tomahawk missiles during that conversation.
He said, “The Tomahawks are a very aggressive move.”
Trump’s comments came after Russia attacked Ukrainian power plants overnight, part of its campaign to disrupt Ukraine’s energy infrastructure before winter.
Russia has expressed “great concern” over the possibility of the US supplying Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine.
Putin has previously said that the US supplying long-range missiles to Ukraine would seriously damage relations between Moscow and Washington.
Regarding the war, Trump said, “I really think it would be good if Putin resolved this matter, and it wouldn’t be good for him if he didn’t.”
