Union Home Minister Amit Shah is going to come to Kolkata to attend a BJP rally. The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has decided to oppose his visit. The party will observe the day of his arrival as ‘Black Day’.

Party insiders said that on Wednesday, members of the party’s legislative team in West Bengal will attend the ongoing winter session of the House in black clothes. The rally is being held at the same venue where the ruling Trinamool Congress holds its Martyrs’ Day celebrations every year on July 21 to protest against irregularities in the implementation of the 100-day job scheme under MNREGA.

Apart from Shah, Union Minister of State for Rural Development Giriraj Singh and Minister of State Niranjan Jyoti are also likely to attend the rally.

Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has ridiculed TMC’s proposed move and said protests like wearing black clothes inside the House are meaningless as there will be no representative of the Central government in the House. “Wednesday will be another option for photo session by ruling party MLAs. He said, “There is no need for us to give any importance to this kind of drama.”

Apart from observing ‘Black Day’ on Wednesday, Trinamool Congress will also hold two-hour protests from 3 pm to 5 pm for three consecutive days from Tuesday. This rally will be against the non-payment of central dues to West Bengal under several centrally sponsored schemes including MNREGA.
