An offensive text has been written on a railing wall along the Delhi-Dehradun National Highway, within the jurisdiction of the Biharigarh police station in Saharanpur district, Uttar Pradesh. The text read, “This road is not for Muslims.” The police announced on Friday that a case has been registered.
According to the police, a roadside wall near an elevated iron bridge on the national highway had the words “This road is not for Muslims” written in Hindi, along with an English translation. Superintendent of Police (Rural) Sagar Jain stated that an employee of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had filed a complaint at the Biharigarh police station.
He said that based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against unidentified Hindu Raksha Dal activists under Section 353 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (statements conducing to public mischief and promoting enmity between groups or communities).
Jain said the police are investigating the matter. Meanwhile, a video has surfaced on social media purportedly showing two young women writing something with paint on the railing wall of the elevated portion of the national highway. A car with a Uttarakhand-registered license plate is also visible in the video. The police said the authenticity of the video is being investigated.
