The Delhi High Court has given a big blow to the Hotel Association on Thursday. The arbitrariness of the restaurant and hoteliers in Delhi will no longer work. The Delhi HC has imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on a hotel association for levying an arbitrary service charge. The hotel association will pay this fine to the consumer department. Let me tell you, more than 4,000 complaints have been registered for hotels and restaurants in Delhi for charging money in the name of service charge. The Delhi High Court, in its order dated July 24, 2023, has directed the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) and the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India to pay Rs 1,00,000 each for non-compliance of service charge norms.
Be it Delhi or Mumbai, restaurant or bar… this is happening everywhere. Some places you are told in advance and some places not, but 10% service charge is being taken indiscriminately. Due to lack of correct information, customers also give money without asking anything.
