There is tension in some parts of Goa after messages were posted on social media hurting the sentiments of the Muslim community. According to reports, some unidentified persons allegedly posted derogatory messages on social media, hurting the sentiments of the Muslim community. Muslim organizations have lodged complaints in this regard with the police in Panaji, Margao, Ponda and Mapusa.
The organizations also filed a complaint with the cyber crime department, saying that those who created fake accounts on Instagram and allegedly made some objectionable comments against Prophet Muhammad and Islam should be arrested. Hundreds of people gathered at police stations demanding “immediate action”. The police assured him to investigate the matter thoroughly and arrest the culprits.

Ponda’s Exec Abbas said, “We saw a post on Instagram which was against our religion. So, we met the police officials and demanded action against those who have hurt our sentiments. Such incidents are happening in Goa. Things never happened. We have filed complaints in Ponda, Panaji, Mapusa and Margao.”
Meanwhile, a person named Abdul Rauf has said that his photo is being used in an ID of Instagram. He said, “I had no knowledge about the incident. But my family members informed me that someone was posting comments on social media using my photo. I did not know that I had the right to create a social media account. Who has used the photo? I urge Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to take police action.
Meanwhile, Goa Police has formed a cyber team to investigate the matter. South Goa Superintendent of Police posted on #SouthDistrict Cyber Team has been formed.”
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had earlier warned of strict action against those making any comments that could potentially upset religious sentiments. Sawant said, “Nobody should criticize other religions. It depends on each individual which God he should praise or worship. Neither a Hindu nor a Christian should speak against other religions. “If people’s sentiments are disturbed by such statements, the government will take action.”
