Tamil Nadu: Goods trains carrying diesel catches fire near Tiruvallur

2 teams of NDRF have reached the spot of fire in a goods train near Tiruvallur. Efforts are underway to extinguish the fire.

A freight train derailed and caught fire near Tiruvallur railway station in Tamil Nadu on Sunday. According to initial information, the freight train was carrying diesel or crude oil.

Following the incident, several express trains coming towards Chennai Central on Tiruvallur and Arakkonam route have been stopped mid-way, causing great inconvenience to passengers. The affected trains include Chennai Central Mail coming from Mangaluru, which was scheduled to reach Chennai at 6:10 am, but it has been stopped at Tiruvallur station.

Besides, Kaveri Express coming from Ashokapuram, which was scheduled to reach at 6:45 am, is standing at Arakkonam station. Nilgiri Express, which was to reach Chennai Central at 6:25 am, is stopped at Tiruvallangadu station (Tiruvallur district). At the same time, Cheran Superfast Express coming from Coimbatore, which was to reach Chennai Central at 7 am, is also standing at Arakkonam station. This unexpected stoppage has affected the travel of passengers and they are facing inconvenience.

These trains have been stopped at various stations till the situation becomes normal. Fire engines are present at the spot to douse the fire. Railway officials are investigating the incident and trying to find out how the fire started. District administration officials have confirmed that there was diesel in the vehicle. However, no official information has been given by the railways so far.
