The Coimbatore Forest Department has confirmed a tragic incident this morning where a 25-year-old male elephant died after being electrocuted. The incident occurred when the elephant knocked down a recently installed electric pole on a public road at the edge of the forest.

What happened?

The incident occurred near Kuppepalayam village in the Poluvampatti Range of the Coimbatore Forest Division. The site is located on a public road about 500 meters from the forest area of ​​Poluvampatti Block 2. According to the Forest Department, a male elephant came out of the forest this morning and knocked down a newly installed electric pole on the public road. The pole fell down, and the elephant became entangled in the electric wires, killing him on the spot.

The incident reportedly occurred around 5 a.m. The owner of a plantation adjacent to the public road first noticed the elephant entangled in the electric wires and immediately informed the Forest Department. The deceased male elephant is estimated to be around 25 years old.
