Supreme Court orders AAP to vacate its Delhi headquarters from land allotted for HC expansion

In a major blow to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Supreme Court on Monday ordered the vacation of the party offices located in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue. The apex court has given AAP time till June 15, 2024 to vacate the office. The court observed that this land was allotted to the Delhi High Court for expansion of judicial infrastructure.

A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra asked AAP to approach the Land and Development Office (L&DO) for allotment of land for its offices. “We would request L&DO to consider the application and take a decision within a period of four weeks,” the bench said. The bench said AAP has no legal right to remain on the land. Not there.

Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for the ruling party in Delhi, said that AAP is one of the six national parties in the country. Singhvi said, “They are telling us that as a national party we get nothing. We have been given land in Badarpur, while others have been given places in better places.”

“In view of the imminent general elections, we grant time till June 15, 2024, to vacate the premises so that the land allotted for expansion of the district judiciary can be utilized expeditiously,” the court said. had earlier directed the Delhi government and the Registrar General of the Delhi High Court to hold a meeting to remove the encroachment by AAP on the land allotted to the High Court at Rouse Avenue.
