The Supreme Court has sought response from the Bihar government on a petition alleging that the condition of government schools in the state is pathetic, and sought directions to ensure basic facilities in them.
A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra issued notice on an appeal filed by NGO ‘Social Jurist’.
The NGO has moved the top court against the Patna High Court’s January 19, 2024 order dismissing its petition and saying the government is taking all steps to improve primary education in the state .
The high court had said, “We also take note of the fact that the government is taking steps to regularly monitor every school in Bihar by calling for reports from the district education officers posted in the districts. The writ petition is dismissed.”
Girl students of a government school in Vaishali district had damaged the vehicle of a state education department official in protest against the ‘pathetic conditions’ in the school. The NGO had filed a writ petition in the High Court after a video of the incident went viral.
