According to the report of news agency AP, more than two thousand people are feared dead due to floods in Libya. About five to six thousand people are reported missing. Al Jazeera news channel reported that two dams of Darna city surrounded by mountains have broken due to the storm. Due to the breach of the dam, about 330 lakh cubic meters of water entered the city, which caused this devastation.

Ahmed Mismari, a spokesman for the Libyan National Army, which controls eastern Libya, told a TV channel that people were swept into the sea after the dams built above Derna collapsed. Libyan Prime Minister Osama Hamad gave information about the incident while talking to TV channel Al-Masr on Monday. He said that more than 2,000 people are feared dead due to this storm in the eastern city of Derna. Thousands of people are missing.

Derna has been declared a disaster area by the government. Earlier, Health Minister Othman Abduljalil had told Saudi Arabia’s news channel Al-Arabiya about this disaster that 27 people have been confirmed dead due to floods in Derna. News agency Reuters wrote that people were sleeping on Monday morning. Meanwhile, the water that came at high speed entered their houses. The water level was 10 feet high. Three days of silence has been observed in the parliament of eastern Libya after this incident.

On behalf of the United Nations, it was said that efforts are being made to provide proper help to the affected people. Relief supplies have been sent to Libya from Qatar.
