Two people were killed and more than 32 devotees were injured in a stampede at the Avasaneshwar temple located in the Haidergarh Kotwali area of Barabanki district in Uttar Pradesh on Monday after an electric wire broken by monkeys fell on them. Officials gave this information. Police said that during the Jalabhishek at the Avasaneshwar temple on Monday of Sawan, an electric wire broke and fell, causing current in the tin shed there and people panicked. He told that this caused a stampede in the temple premises.
Police said that at least more than 32 devotees were injured in the accident, two of whom died. It was reported that Prashant (22), a resident of Mubarakpura village of Lonikatra police station area and another 30-year-old devotee died during treatment at Trivediganj Community Health Center (CHC). Officials said that a total of 10 injured were brought to the CHC, out of which five were referred to a higher level center due to their critical condition.
He said that 26 injured were admitted to Haidergarh CHC, out of which one has been referred to another hospital in critical condition. After the accident, there was chaos in the temple premises and the area. Administrative officials reached the spot and tried to control the situation. Investigation is going on in this matter. District Magistrate (DM) Shashank Tripathi said that during the Jalabhishek in the temple, monkeys broke the electric wire, due to which there was a stampede in the premises due to electric current in three sheds.
He said that two people died in this accident and more than two dozen people were injured. He said that the injured are being treated in CHC and District Hospital. He said that the situation is normal. Later the devotees resumed worship in the temple.
