An explosives-laden vehicle hit a bus in Pakistan’s restive northwestern province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday, killing at least six Chinese nationals traveling in the bus. This information was provided by officers. These Chinese citizens were working on the Dasu Hydroelectric Project.
Several others were injured in the incident that took place in Bisham area of the province’s Shangla district, police said. Police said the incident occurred when a bus going from Islamabad to Kohistan was hit by a vehicle coming from the opposite direction. So far no group has claimed responsibility for this attack.
Bisham police station in-charge (SHO) Bakht Zaheer said the incident was a “suicide blast” and the concerned authorities were collecting evidence, Dawn.com reported. He said security has been tightened at the spot and the bodies are being taken to the hospital.
“We will investigate where and how the suicide bomber’s vehicle came from and how this happened,” the SHO said.
Geo News quoted a senior police officer as saying that at least six Chinese traveling on the bus were killed and several other passengers were injured in the suicide attack.
Shangla is close to Kohistan, where 13 people, including nine Chinese, were killed in a terrorist attack in 2021.
